Mark of the Witch

Mark of the Witch 1970

Mark of the Witch didn’t do much for me. It’s not totally unwatchable and has a novel touch or two, but it’s never ever scary or atmospheric. I’m not saying it deserves to be burned at the stake or anything, just there are a bunch of other better witch movies you can waste your time on.

The main thing this movie suffers from is a lack of horror in any form whatsoever and when watching a film called Mark of the Witch, horror is what one would expect to see – what one wants to see. Altogether it is cheesy, tedious and one of the few movies of low budget that actually turns out to be bad and in a good way.

Psycho Goreman

Psycho Goreman 2020

What can you expect from a movie titled “Psycho Goreman” or PG for short? The very name suggests that it does not take it self very seriously and that it opts for absurd comedy where nonsense and gratuitous violence dominate. Well this is exactly what this movie provides.

Psycho Goreman is a kind of homage to absurd horror movies that are so bad they are good. In this vein, special effects are cool in the sense that they are bad with the intention of being. As the name suggests, gore and excessive violence are abundant, all in the context of exaggeration. What is intentionally good is the appearance of Psycho Goreman, who sports an intimidating physique of the Djinn in “Wishmaster.”

Psycho Goreman is an absurd heap of gory fun whose purpose seems to be to pay homage to also low budget horror movies. The intentionally bad special effects are it’s best weapon, a department that has already begun to distinguish it’s interesting director. It’s weak point is it’s very intention to be so absurd and exaggerated that it provides funny moments, but also some irritating ones, not forgetting to mention the irritating girl protagonist, that tolerating her is a challenge.
